讲座简介
Thelecture begins by examining common notions of fidelity, license andlatitude: to whom or what are we faithful to—people, principles/faith, toyour cat perhaps, your country? Do similar notions apply to text and discourse? And what does being faithful mean?
Here are somedimensions of fidelity often talked about in translation and interpretation:sense consistency; coherence; completeness; same language register; tone;emphasis; style; emotional coloring; sense of audience; gesturing; voicemodulation and flow. I will ask the class to discuss how these apply to bothtranslation and interpretation. I will conclude with a discussion of fidelityin the context of quality assurance in translation and interpretation.
