Xiang Mingyou is a Professor of English and linguistics with interests in pragmatics and functional linguistics at BeihangUniversity. He received his Ph.D in linguistics from ShanghaiInternationalStudiesUniversity in 1998. He worked as a postdoctor from 2002 to 2003 with Professor Paul Hopper at Carnegie-MellonUniversity. Between 2004 and 2008, he was Head of English Department at TongjiUniversity. He was the founder of the Ph.D program in linguistics at TongjiUniversity, and a co-founder of the Ph.D program in Foreign Languages and Literature at BeihangUniversity. Professor Xiang was awarded the title of "New Century Excellent Talents" by the Chinese Ministry of Education in 2009, and selected as a Blue-Sky distinguished professor of BeihangUniversity in 2010. He is now the dean of the School of Foreign languages at BeihangUniversity. For the past 10 years, Dr. Xiang has worked on economic approach to human speech behavior with a long-term ambition to establish a new branch of studies in Pragmatics i.e. Econo-pragmatics. He has been the author of more than 30 journal articles and lead author of 6 books.
